Summary

A copy of this survey from 1566 allows us to measure the extension of Feudalism in Lapurdi and it shows that the Feudal regime was quite unknown in this land. Witnesses assert that have their land "directly" from their lord the King, and that both noblemen and inhabitants are equally subjected to the King. Some sixty "hombres ligios" (men bound by feudal allegiance) also owe him the duty of ; "albergade" (lodging). The witnesses complain of four lords that have usurped and ; populated vacant lands on which they exercise justice in an abusive manner.
