Summary
This article describes and analyzes the influence that Basque immigration had on the Uruguayan carnival. The study presents the cultural features of the first carnival manifestations of Basqueimmigrants to the present day. Likewise, the research deconstructs some conceptions rooted in academicstudies on the Uruguayan carnival, such as the nonexistence of European influence in the northern regionof the country.
