Summary

The author thinks that Basque literature has taken the same qualitative and quantitative step as other languages have done over the centuries. This means that it has gone from an eminently rural culture to a modern and urban culture. Poetry and novels written in Basque have achieved a quality unthinkable some years ago, now comparable to that of neighbouring literatures. A group of authors have emerged who live literature as a profession even though the Basque language is a minority within its own country
