Summary

This communication proposes the hypothesis that the Jesus of Nazareth procession, in its trajectory through the San Francisco quarter, in Bilbao, transcends its religious significance to become an important element in the identitary configuration of that area of the town. In spite of the multiple transformations the quarter has been subjected to, and those that have taken place in the procession itself, it still maintains that degree of importance in this creation of its identity.
