Summary

In France, during the first few months of 1906, the inventories ofecclesiastical assets, prescribed by the law of separation between the Church and the State, of December 1905, were not welcomed with enthusiasm in the towns of the Basque Country, particularly in the parishes of Hasparren and Iholdy. The reports drawn up by the government employees responsible for the inventory reflect the people´s opposition and resistance, as well as their public support for the Church.
