Summary

There are extremely few texts evoking the theme of tempests at sea in the Basque language literature from the 17th and 18th centuries. Four of such texts are noteworthy for their aesthetic qualities: chapter VII of the sailors´ prayers by J. Etcheberri from Ciboure (1627), the chapter on the .Certainty. -Egokidiaz, by J. Eguiatéguy (1785) and two popular songs probably written before the Treaty of Utrecht (1713).
