The study of the phenomenon of linguistic variation has suffered over the years, in light of diverse linguistic paradigms such as the one proposed by sociolinguistic variationism, major changes to the minimum values a linguistic theory should include that aims to account for, not only the grammatical formation of the linguistic sequences, but also their variation in languages.
