Summary

The objective of the recently set up Basque Country Chamber of Agriculture is to promote sustainable agriculture, that is, and autonomous, economic and environmentally friendly agriculture that is also consumer friendly. The idea is to determine what model of agriculture corresponds to the quality of food, the beauty of landscapes and a wealth of biodiversity demanded by city dwellers. Since agriculture is a matter of concern for all, it is necessary to establish, in terms of sustainable development, the duties and obligations that city inhabitants and farmers will have towards each other. In our opinion, the relationship between the various stakeholders in society is an important element of concepts of sustainable development.
