Summary

The increased presence of women in local government has led to significant changes in the local political agenda that are beginning to reflect the gender issue; however, there has been very little consolidation of their political leadership and women´s presence in the political arena has only managed to transform the structure of gender relations prevailing in other emerging alternative models very slightly.
