Summary

The competition of languages in relation to the current expansion of English can be studied from several points of view. In a social and political aspect, a dominant group tends to make the rest believe that its own culture is universal. In social and linguistic aspect, languages do not have equal power and cannot perform the same functions ; there is therefore a jerarquization of languages. From a purely linguistic point of view there is a deterioration of the language as consequence of scientific and cultural productions that increasingly recur to English
