Summary

The thesis formulated by the Father Larramendi, spread by Humboldt and supported in more recent times by Schuchardt and Menéndez Pidal on the supposed identity between the Basque and Iberian languages, is refuted in this article by Pedro Bosch Gimpera. The author requests that philologists advance in their research with their own methods but without venturing historical hypotheses that cannot be contrasted with the findings of archaeology, the only procedure that, in the end, guarantees an objective framework and responsible chronology.
