Summary

Jesus de Galíndez, who lived for several years in the Dominican Republic, analyses the Basque presencein the island in past as well as in contemporary times. There are hardly any Basque surnames, even though some fifty Basques settled there after the Spanish civil war. The Basque Government opened a delegation there at the end of 1939, which was first visited by the lehendakari José Antonio de Aguirre in October 1942.
