Summary

This work combines two investigations: the first aims to reassess the volume of production from Bizkaia forges in the early 17th century and questions the crisis in this sector. The second analyses how, by controlling this production, some Basque nobles and their allies managed to manipulate the Spanish monarchy´s foreign policy to suit their own interests.
