Summary

He was born in Ezterenzubi in Lower Navarre into a mountain farming family; inhis youth he was a monk at Ploermel (Brittany), and a primary school teacher in Catholicschools. Having obtained his PhD in history, he taught this subject at schools belongingto the Seaska federation (of Basque-medium schools) and at the Faculty in Baiona(Bayonne), while writing books on the history of the Basque Country. As Secretary of IKAS(Basque Pedagogical Service) he participated in the setting up of the UEU-SummerBasque University and later became its Director. He also supported the Enbata magazineand the EHAS political party. An enthusiastic mountain climber, he died in the highmountains of Biarno (Béarn).
