Summary

Specialised teaching of music, in its elementary and amateur sections, is carried out, in the Basque Country, for 78.4% of students, in municipal centres. However, such entities have no jurisdiction on educational matters. The central and autonomic administrations have the corresponding jurisdictions, but it is the local entities which finance, to a certain extent, these centres. The first step is to regulate, through the budget, the financing of the centre. Then it is necessary to establish monitoring mechanisms to follow up the fulfilment of the development and objectives established in there form. This is a challenge to the future.
