Summary
This essay studies certain cultural and ritual events of a theatrical nature. Known as "Maskaradak", these theatrical representations are held in the Uhaitzandi valley, in the Basque Pyrenees, and seem to be related to some kind of rural carnival festivities. This work analyses the Maskaradak organized by the people of Muskildi in 1987. To carry out this work, the author has taken the results of research made into popular culture carried out to-date and anthropological conclusions drawn form these rituals, and, basing, himself on the ethnography of the Muskildi Maskarada, has taken a look at the significance and meaning of today´s ritual popular theatre. To do this, it was essencial to take into consideration the social, economic and cultural situacion both of the place itself, as well as that of a wider environment.Sing up and download the publications of Eusko Ikaskuntza
