Summary

Numerous "cultural intermediaries" have long provided their interpretations on the changes that have taken place in the north of the Basque Country, without accepting, in many occasions, the social and cultural innovations that came along with them, and even advocating for a certain backwardness. It would be a matter of analysing what they based their positions on. Fortunately, around the end of the century there appeared the perspective of socio-cultural anthropology that contributed to a better understanding of the changes that took place during the century, the conflicts that happened and the new balances.
