Summary

The "Plaza mayor" (main square) is a well defined tipology of a precise urban element from XVIth century onwards. It is characterised for being space of rectangular plan, where buildings which surround it have the same height and the same façade composition, being the ground floor a sequence of even arches around the whole perimeter. Study of the constructive system which had been employed ; differences between main squares of San Sebastian, Bilbao and Vitoria ; historical evolution of that system
