Summary

After comparing various archaeological and documentary evidence (gathered in mixed form in the literature) the authors argue that the hypothesis of a late basquisation (that can be dated at the first half of the 6th century) explains the linguistic history of the Basque country and Navarra in a much more simple and consistent way than the opposite hypothesis, i.e., that of a ancient basqueness of the same territory.
