Summary

From the nineteen sixties up to the present day, Basque cinema has suffered considerable transformations that have affected its artistic side as well as its financial aspects. Concentrating on the latter aspects, the policy of subsidies of the nineteen eighties, which is the basis of successful contemporary Basque cinema, and the work of the Euskal Media public society in the nineteen nineties, are all things of the past. At present, the Basque Government and Basque film-makers are seeking formulations to achieve, once and for all, the consolidation of a Basque cinema industry.
