Summary

This paper analyses especially the "Fiestas Euskaras" (Basque Festivities) 1886 essay prize, which was awarded to a work by Aristides de Artiñano "Project of a Basque Academy", a more accurate title for which is "Project, basis and regulation of a Basque language and history academy in complete harmony with Catholic principles". The author analyses point by point the text that is conserved in the Archives of the town of Durango. In the second part of this work, the author deals with other results of these Basque festivities, such as the promotion of the "ezpatadantza" which is also indirectly carried out in the "Euzko Abendaren Ereserkija". Finally mention is made to another two projects which received awards, so as to demonstrate that not only Literary Floral Games received awards: the award given to Camilo de Villabaso and that given to a certain Aizpurua. As can be seen, these contests did not only bring about a rebirth of Basque literature, but also of other fields such as history, folklore, economy, etc.
