Summary

The process of reinvention takes into consideration: the changing nature of urban space; its complexity; the centrality of citizenship. As an ongoing and unfinished process it is analyzed from the viewpoint of the concept of tension, being defined as energy produced by the conjuction of contradictory forces. Four dimensions of tension are introduced: negative, critical, positive and creative.
