Summary

The present study is a first approximation to the topic of the social interaction that is established in a given type of urban space like the gymnasiums. Thus our principal hypothesis has been to consider gymnasiums as areas that generate sociability. In order to do so, we have attempted to determine if social interaction was established depending on the different types of spaces. We analysed up to what point, and in what way, factors like age, sex, social class, etc. condition the sociability that is established in gymnasiums. This we did with the intention of verifying how recent phenomena of social and cultural change, which have taken place in cities, create new spaces (for sports) and samples of sociability, that are to be added to those already existing in Seville.
