Summary

During the Early Middle Ages it can be asserted that there was a great relationship between people from Bizkaia and other Atlantic coastal peoples, be it through the coastal route to Santiago, or through the importance of the provision of fishing and iron. During the 14th century, Bizkaia suffered some attempts of anexation by Castille and England which culminated with its union to Castille, thus beginning its service by sea in favor of France and against England.
