Summary

With this arrangement, I have intended to divulge a little better the musical facet of Azkue. This facet has been largely ignored compared to other facets like that of philologist or academic. In the ideological field he developed an autochthonous musical language, which is also termed as national. He also opposed the populism and the italianism present in Spanish music. Furthermore, he blazed trails and encouraged younger composers, like Jesus Guridi, to compose their pieces using Basque popular melodies, which he himself had recovered.
