Summary

In the 10th century, Alava was very populated and possessed a great amount of villages with Basque names. Three hundred and seven villages are registered in the Catalogue of San Millán although there must have been more since there is no mention of those located in some valleys. There are also the names of the villages that possess their old names, those which have some small variation in their name, and those which do not have any similarity at all and those which have disappeared. The possible meaning of some names is also provided.
