Summary

The construction of theatres increased spectacularly throughout the 19 th century and in the first third of the 20 th century in the whole of Europe. The Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao is one of the maximum exponents of this architectural typology in the Basque Country and the content of this communication analyses some aspects that characterised its projecting and subsequent construction in late 19 th century Bilbao.
