Summary

The two classic paradigms of telecommunications regulations - (1) the state-owned model (prevalent throughout Europe and most of the world and (2) the regulated monopoly model (used in the U.S.) - are now being replaced with privatization and deregulation. Consumers have reason to refoice: Privatization and deregulation in the telecommunications industry have brought about numerous benefits to consumers, including lower prizes and greater innovation.
