Summary

As both peoples (the Basques and the English) have been fishing peoples, there has always been some contact between them. During the Middle Ages both peoples defended their freedoms against the abuses of royal authority. Furthermore, there seem to be historical connections between the English parliamentarian political system and the Basque statutory system. The relationship between both peoples during the reign of Henry VIII and during the Renaissance (XVI century), the linguistic work of Bonaparte and the works of other authors from the XIX century are mentioned. At present, Basque overseas associations are generating an interest in the study of the Basque Country as a historical entity
