Wilhelm von Humboldt was an important character in Prussian and European politics at the beginning of the 19th century, and he participated in the Congress of Vienna representing his country. In his youth he visited the Basque Country for the second time, which is when he carried out important sociopolitical and phylological studies. This is the story of his visit to Bilbao, quoiting not only his official memoirs but also private letters addressed to his wife.
