Summary

During the first four months of 2008 a study of the scientific texts published by the newspapers edited in the Basque Country was carried out at the initiative of the Elhuyar Foundation. This study provided an insight into scientific Basque journalism: it identified, among other things, the journalistic genres, the most usual themes and sources. The scientific subjects preferred by the Basque press are technology and health. These topics are dealt with positively and are presented as information or news. However, few scientific interpretations are offered and nothing in the line of opinion.
