Summary

This paper describes Bengoetxea´s training and academic career from his youth and up until he obtained his PhD in Edinburgh. It then goes on to examine his professional academic career. Different places, countries, people and times are interspersed in the historical and autobiographical perspective, explaining what kind of ideas and approaches he has taken. Despite being full of a personal style, the paper also offers theoretical and practical references to contribute towards understanding the factors which have exerted an influence on the author.
