It is said that “Industry 4.0” is the promise of a new industrial splendour. This paper s the concepts and elements that underline this idea: general macro trends, business strategy models and the technologies that promote all this. It explains how these elements are coupled to meet the needs created by society and it reviews the technologies that seem related to this industrial splendour, such as digitalisation, additive manufacturing, robotics and artificial intelligence, among others.
