Summary

Over the last few years a group of architects and academic institutions related to firstclass quality architecture have gradually originated in the Basque Country. Although one can not speak of a "identity" and much less so of a Basque architecture as such, it is indeed possible to identify a series of common attitudes and deeds that determine the existence of a strong group of architects recognised as such outside our geographical limits. Unfortunately this recognition is more manifest abroad than in the interior. The various administrative and professional institutions are not sufficiently conscious of this fact and confuse the search for symbols or emblematic works with the principle of quality in architecture "per se".
