Summary

Between 1661 and 1765, Viana (Navarra) had a workshop for building organs. The area it covered exceeded lagerly the regional boundaries: Navarra, La Rioja, Alava, Guipuzcoa and Burgos, and goes as far as La Mancha and Valladolid. On the last third of the XVIIth century, the organ builder Juan Tabar y Andueza native of Lerin (Navarra), which was at the time one of the most important organ building centres on a national level, comes to Viana where he sets up his workshop and guarantees its continuity by arranging the marriage between his aprrentice Juan Goñi and his sister. Francisco Olite works until the first decade of the XVIIIth century and takes on Francisco and Felipe Urarte as apprentices ; the latter marries the master?s daughter. Data about the work of these two brothers are found in very distant places from their own native town. In the present work, besides the sociological data of these two artisans, some very interesting news are offered, extracted from contracts, records, prices, etc., to demostrate the influence of the organ builders from Navarra within a wide national context
