Summary

In this new issue of Ikastaria we offer the reader a compilation of the papers from the conference held in 2007 under the title: The History of Education in the Basque Country. The papers focus from a historical perspective on the Basque Country?s experiences in the different areas of education. The subject matters include the following: the alphabetisation process, the Basque curriculum, linguistic rights and the position of language, linguistic policies and historic memory. The first items are the lectures by the two invited speakers at the conference, followed by the communiqués presented by other experts who also took part and, finally, the words offered by Gregorio Arrien. Besides the communiqués presented at the conference, another paper is presented regarding the historic perspective of education, in this case in relation to Navarra.
