The author starts by distinguishing between Basque literature and Basque writers, so as to strictly define what the motion is about. This is a short panoramic history of what Basque writers have meant in Spanish literature. The author starts with late 19th century Basque romanticism, and includes social poets and the narrators of the "mid-century generation". He then finishes with the "newnarrative", in which some of the most meaningful Basque authors of the last fifty years are taken into account: Miguel Sánchez Ostiz, Alvaro Bermejo, Fernando Aramburu, Juan Manuel de Prada, Lucía Etxebarría and Espido Freire.
