Summary

This conference develops the concept of Ecological Imprint, understood as the amount of surface necessary to produce the resources we consume and absorb the residues we produce. On being conscious of that imprint, a double responsibility arises, morals in relation to the consequences our way of life has on other territories (from which we extract resources and where we dump residues) and the populations that inhabit them (who suffer the consequences of our consumer society), and, on more practical terms, to determine our functional territory and check if we have guarantees to maintain it indefinitely as a supply base. It seems necessary to include both reflections in our political practise and in our way of living. At the same time, social response is necessary in such dilemmas.
