Summary
Issue 51.1 (2006.1) of the International Journal of Basque Studies (RIEV), publishes, in its Tribuna section, five works on matters related both to the Basque Country and to general matters of interest for researchers: José Antonio Mingolarra freely reflects on the plural dimensions of cities in the era of globalisation; Joseba Sobrino makes a profile of the concepts of Basque Cultural Patrimony and Common Patrimony of Humanity and their compatibility and practical character; Francis Brumont contributes with an original vision of the trans-frontier commercial relations of Navarre in the 16th-17th centuries as refers to the traffic of pigs; Juan Arana examines the sense of Oteiza?s feminine sculptures and his cosmogony of the concave; and finally Xabier Ezeizabarrena approaches the legal and political status of the Basque Country from the point of view of its direct participation in the construction of Europe. In the Reseña section, there are commentaries on various books on Basque matters; in the Tesis section is the list of doctoral theses read in the universities of Vasconia during the second semester of 2005, and in Noticia there are commentaries on the 75th anniversary of the Draft Statute for the Basque Country, written in 1931 by the Basque Studies Society; on the great exhibition "La Edad de un Reyno" (The Age of a Kingdom), in Pamplona; the activities of the Zarautz Photomuseum, and on the XI Eusko Ikaskuntza-Caja Laboral Humanities, Culture, Arts and Social Sciences Prize awarded to Néstor Basterretxea.
