Summary

In this contribution, it is our intention to show that Batua Basque and Zuberera Basque are not incompatible, they are complementar y. We have here a typical case of diglossia in the strict sense of the word. The knowledge and the safeguard of Basque dialectal diversity are necessary. The dialect from Soule should not have to fight against Batua Basque, which, at any rate, is stronger. It must preserve its place supporting itself in those areas in which it is privileged: family life, social circles, teaching in kindergartens and primary schools, in the cultural and religious life, in the province... The destiny of the Basque from Soule depends first and foremost on the very Souletins.
