Summary

Although, at present, musical education is guaranteed in all stages of Compulsory General Education and there is the requisite of the music specialist to impart this subject, reality is far from adequate. However, like the rest of curricular areas that make up the school curriculum, music is part of the task of offering an integral training to the individual for his/her full incorporation into society. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse curricular designs and their correspondence with the expectations of school-age population in musical matters. It is also necessary to analyse what capacities the individual is intended to attain in terms of musical education at the end of general education.
