Summary

Toponyms, but in spite of being conservative linguistic elements are not exempted from changes in their transmission through time, orally and in writing. This work deals with the problems that arise in part of the territory of Alava where the Basque language has been lost, the situation that brings about translated or disfigured toponyms, etc. Also the importance of the study of historical toponymy is stressed.
