With people?s recollections from the brilliant Congress held in 1948 in Biarritz still alive, the VIII Basque Studies Congress was held in 1954 in Baiona. Notwithstanding the shortage of means and the considerable dispersion of the Basque community in exile, the Congress made it possible to gather a large amount of scholars in order to see the then current situation of Basque science and culture. This publication gathers a very important part of the contributions to the Congress, together with other texts presented in the Basque Studies Sessions and in the Summer University sessions that were held that same year in Ustaritz.
