Summary
This volume of documents from Mondragón is the continuation of the five volumes published to date. It is split into two parts. The first, which is the result of the work carried out by Professor José Angel Lema Pueyo, includes the transcription of the first Book of Accounts of the Council of Arrasate until 1520. In it there is a year by year record, starting on 29th September, the day of Saint Michael, of the income perceived by the town council of Mondragón and the expenses effected by local officials. At the end of each year, a balance of income and expenses was made. The steward or economist was responsible for the economic management of the council. The second part, edited by José Manuel Gómez Lago, consists of the transcription of the minutes of the Juntas Generales (local parliament) of Gipuzkoa preserved in the Municipal Archives of Arrasate, also until 1520. They are, more concretely, minutes of the distribution of monies, in which the expenses paid by the authorities of the Province of Gipuzkoa are detailed. Once the expenses have been added up, and hence the name, a distribution is made of the quantities to be paid by the various councils in Guipuzkoa. This volume includes therefore some texts of interest for a better knowledge of the fiscal and institutional organisation of Gipuzkoa at the beginning of the 16th century.
