Summary

This study aims to analyse the dual careers of high-level sportswomen. This case study is carried out through in-depth interviews and focus groups that relate the experiences of a group of high-level Basque sportswomen, paying special attention to the attitude of the teaching staff, the protective factors and the care programmes for sportswomen with these characteristics. The conclusions reflect the need to train teachers to facilitate the dual careers of sportswomen, to take care of protective factors that prevent early abandonment of sport and to work on improving support programmes for high-level sportswomen.
