Summary
The municipality of San Millán - Donemiliaga is formed by fifteen rural nuclei that, during the Middle Ages, formed the hamlets that belonged to the town of Salvatierra, a dependency that marks a considerable part of their history. Relations between the hamlets and the town crystallised in continuous conflicts that did not end till the 17th century: disputes on common boundaries, on the right to constitute a separate brotherhood, on jurisdiction, etc. Besides, both the town and the hamlets had to be subjected to the dominion of the Ayalas until the mid 16th century. These rural nuclei, as against the town and other nearby nuclei, defended the right to economically exploit communal lands, fields and low highlands, and thus there are many agreements, arbitral sentences and demarcation writs that establish boundaries and rights.
