Summary
This essay aims to disclose an important aspect of the life of Miguel de Unamuno: his mountaineering persona. We will mainly examine the European historical and social context from which mountaineering rises, and the literary sources that nourish Unamuno´s texts. We have come to the conclusion that he followed with great interest anything that dealt with his pastime.
