Summary

This article describes the aspects of the training of a Spanish skipper of fishing. The research is centered on a small Galician fishing port (Spain). Oral sources form the empirical foundation of the work. The period runs from the beginning of the Twenty Century till the 1970s. This was a period of great dynamism and development in the fishery. The story ends with the failure of a new generation to take over from the protagonists here studied, a failure driven by the fishing masters themselves.
