Summary

This article examines the role played by tradition, particularly of the tradition socially perceived as folklore, in today´s festive celebrations. It discusses the fact that the obvious complexity of the group of social agents participating in these celebrations must forcibly have a bearing on the presentation and perception of a tradition whose dimension as a show and whose mise en scene are the dominant aspect. Special attention is also paid to the problem of axiological dissonance.
