Summary
In spite of its modest demographic dimensions, Urnieta (Gipuzkoa) has had an almost complete catalogue of centres of primary education: teachers through a private foundation since the 17th century, municipal schools, national schools, particular workers and peasants schools, rural schools, private initiative ikastolas as from the early nineteen-sixties which were later to become public, religious schools, apart from a novitiate, seminar and professional school. This research, prepared as a result of the centenary of the benefactor Pedro Viteri, covers the history of all these centres of education.
